BEAT: Blood pressure evaluation through acoustic and optical technology

Description: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), including hypertension, account for 32% of global deaths annually, leading to severe health burden and unbearably high healthcare costs. Early detection and prevention of CVDs can significantly reduce the risk of complications and improve quality of life. However, challenges such as errors and occlusion (e.g., from arm cuffs) hinder continuous blood pressure monitoring. In this research, I am developing a multimodal cardiometer (MUCA), a wearable device that combines novel sound and light technologies enabling accurate, calibration-free, continuous monitoring of arterial blood pressure, addressing cardiovascular health and paving the way for improved early detection and prevention of CVDs.
