The Role of HMGB1 in autophagy deficiency-induced liver pathology
Description: Project Narrative Macroautophagy, hereafter referred to as autophagy, is an evolutionarily conserved intracellular degradation mechanism involved in diverse biological activities and in the pathogenesis of many diseases, including liver diseases. We recently found that HMGB1, released from hepatocytes, were responsible for some of the key pathological changes in autophagy deficient livers. The aim of this project is to study how HMGB1 is released and how it contributes to hepatic pathologies in the absence of autophagy function.
