Corticobasal syndrome: clinical and physiopathological correlates

Description: Corticobasal syndrome (CBS) is an atypical parkinsonian syndrome of great interest to movement disorders specialists and behavioral neurologists. Although originally considered a primary motor disorder, it is now also recognized as a cognitive disorder, usually presenting cognitive deficits before the onset of motor symptoms. The term CBS denotes the clinical phenotype and is associated with a heterogeneous spectrum of pathologies. Given that disease-modifying agents are targeting the pathologic process, new diagnostic methods and biomarkers are being developed to predict the underlying pathology. Objectives: To analyse a cohort of patients with CBS through neuropsychological and neurological assessment to evaluate the presence of biomarkers to amyloid(utilizing Positron Emission Tomography with Pitsburg compound) and Tau pathology (Positron Emission Tomography with deoxy- fluoro- glucose and Magnetic Ressonance Imaging). Methods: these patients will be assessed longitudinally in the movement disorders and behavioral neurology outpatient service of Hospital das Clínicas, University of São Paulo. They will be compared to purpose a correlation between clinical assessment and biomarkers of Tau and Amyloid pathology. (AU)
