Inhalable stem cell exosome therapy for cardiac injury
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and about 875,000 Americans die from heart disease each year, of which 50-60% deaths are caused by coronary artery disease which can further develop into heart failure and scarring. We discovered a lung stem cell-derived exosome product and its cargo microRNAs that play an essential role in cardiac repair. In this grant proposal we will study the safety, efficacy, and mechanism of exosome inhalation therapy to treat ischemic heart diseases in both small and large animal models.
