Hormetic regulation of autophagy in aging

Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Hormetic stress leads to organismal benefits in many organisms, including via induction of the cell-recycling process of autophagy. However, it remains unclear how autophagy is induced after hormetic stress and whether autophagy is sustained to manifest long-term organismal benefits. Since autophagy and stress- response hormesis are evolutionarily conserved, the proposed research to investigate how hormetic stress regulates autophagy is relevant to human health and may prove important for developing strategies to protect against human age-related diseases.
