Engineering optimization and scaling enables high quality pancreatic islet cryopreservation for banking and transplant

Description: Project Narrative We seek to develop a method for the long-term cryopreservation, or banking, of pancreatic islets prior to transplant. If successful this approach could revolutionize how islets are isolated, allocated, and stored prior to transplant. Further, it would help lessen the organ shortage problem, reduce the risk of transplantation, and improve islet transplantation's success rate for the cure of diabetes.
