Canonical and non-canonical vitamin D activation pathways in systemic lupus
Description: Project Narrative Vitamin D deficiency in SLE is common and it is well recognized that vitamin D has an essential function in regulating the immune system to counteract development of autoimmunity, however, benefits of vitamin D supplementation have been mixed. We identified novel pathways of vitamin D activation that can affect immune cells activities in unique ways. Using comprehensive and unbiased approaches, we will determine if any of these immune cell intrinsic pathways are diminished in SLE and contribute to the pathogenesis of the disease.
