Status of Frail Elderly by Regional Characteristics and Development of Support Model for Promotion of Preventive Action

Description: In this study, we clarified the actual condition of frailty among independent elderly people who belong to local voluntary circles. Even among elderly people who participate in community activities, half of them were prefrail, suggesting the necessity of intervention to prevent the progression of frailty even among active elderly people. To verify the effect, we encouraged them to perform "Ashiyubi Gymnastics" devised by the local government on circle activity days once a week for 3 months. During the monitoring, the lifestyle of the elderly changed due to the spread of the novel coronavirus, and there was concern about the progression of frailty. However, by developing "Ashiyubi Gymnastics" that can be performed at home and encouraging them to practice it daily, we think that we were able to sufficiently cope with the prevention of nursing care under the situation in which self-restraint was forced.
