Systemic Cell Senescence as a Mediator of Brain Aging Through Circulation

Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Age is the primary risk factor for cognitive decline, and the number of people with age-related dementia is expected to triple to 14 million by 2050 with no effective treatment solutions on the horizon. This research may demonstrate that senescent cells that accumulate with age throughout the body are a source of pro-aging proteins in blood circulation that disrupt brain function. Systemic elimination of senescent cells may reveal a vital new strategy to deplete the progeronic impact of aged blood, ultimately promoting healthy cognitive aging.
