Developing an intuitive, portable training device based on the biofeedback method, aimed to support cognitive functioning in ageing.

Description: The purpose of the Project is to develop an intuitive, portable training device called NeuroPlay, based on the biofeedback method aimed to support cognitive functioning in ageing. The direct target group of the Project includes late adults and elderly people in whom deteriorated efficiency of cognitive functions is common. The Project is a response to the reference groups' need for improvement of cognitive abilities, doing regular and individual trainings in any place (intuitive and tailor-made training) and finally to improve the quality of life, mental health and everyday functioning via cognitive training. The reference Project will result in developing a product which is innovative at least in the Polish market scale. It will be NeuroPlay training device - friendly for people who are not so good at dealing with new technologies, based on a biofeedback phenomenon, where the user receives feedback on a current basis and consciously learns to control his/her body's behaviour. The device is featured with a band with sensors and a recorder (retransmitter). The intended physiological parameters measured online include the following: - EEG (electroencephalography), - HEG (hemoencephalography), - GSR (galvanic skin resistance), - variability of the heart rhythm. The data collected by the sensors are sent online to the recorder. The project is implemented by a Consortium of scientific units such as The Institute of Medical Technology and Equipment (ITAM); Ludwik Rydygier Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz and Red Door Sp. z o.o., as the Project Leader. The results of R&D works will be implemented in the Leader's business by starting manufacturing and sales of products developed based on the Project results.
