Duke Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center

Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE – Overall The Duke Pepper Older Americans Independence Center (OAIC) will advance knowledge of reserve and resilience in older adults and develop and evaluate strategies to improve the ability of older adults to withstand or recover from health stressors. Aging is associated with increasing exposure and vulnerability to multiple stressors that threaten independence; so, research on resilience in older adults is essential to bolster independence. The Duke OAIC will train promising new investigators through a comprehensive multidisciplinary program and support pilot studies to lead to innovative larger grants investigating reserve and resilience in older adults.
