Cellular Aging and Rejuvenation: A Comprehensive Picture from a Dynamic and Network Perspective
Description: Project Narrative Aging is a complex phenotype controlled by a network of genes interacting with each other. The breakdown of this network with age underlies the loss of cellular homeostasis leading to senescence and death. This proposal uses systems biology approaches to analyze the replicative aging of yeast, which is a canonical model for aging research. New technologies for single cell analysis will be used to identify early dynamic changes that are causal to the loss of cellular homeostasis and to devise dynamic interventions to restore homeostasis. Insights gained from this research are likely to translate into effective therapeutic strategies to slowdown and even to reverse aging in humans.
