Succinate signaling in periodontitis induced neuroinflammation and dementia
Description: Project Narrative Periodontitis is chronic gum inflammation leading to systemic inflammation and neuroinflammation and may subsequently promote the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. The proposed study will identify a novel mechanism by which periodontitis increases succinate in cerebrospinal fluid and activates succinate receptor in microglia to induce neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration. The study will provide a potential therapeutic strategy by targeting succinate receptor.
