Care Management for People Living with HIV/AIDS Aged 50 and Over: Comprehensive Approach to Aging and Quality of Life Promotion in the State of São Paulo

Description: The aging of the population living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Brazil presents new challenges for the Unified Health System (SUS), requiring care approaches that consider the clinical, functional, and psychosocial specificities of this group. Despite therapeutic advances that have increased the life expectancy of PLWHA, aging with HIV is associated with a higher risk of multimorbidities, frailty, cognitive impairment, and psychosocial impact, which demands specific tools for proper assessment. This project aims to understand the sociodemographic characteristics and aspects related to the continuum of care for people living with HIV over 50 years old in the state of São Paulo, and to analyze the dimensions of frailty among people over 50 living with HIV in four specialized care services in the state of São Paulo. The project will be divided into two stages: i. Analysis of the continuum of care for people living with HIV over the age of 50 in the state of São Paulo; ii. Assessment of frailty dimensions in people aged 50 and over living with HIV/AIDS in the state of São Paulo. The study will be observational, cross-sectional, and quantitative. In the first stage, an analysis will be carried out on all people living with HIV over the age of 50 in the state of São Paulo using secondary data from epidemiological surveillance, laboratory monitoring, and medication control. AIDS-free survival time will be analyzed using Kaplan-Meier models and Cox proportional hazards models. The second stage will involve the application of a standardized multidimensional assessment tool for older adults to a sample of individuals aged 50 and over receiving follow-up care in four specialized care services for people living with HIV. This instrument will be adapted and validated for use with people living with HIV. Statistical analysis will include estimates of internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha), concurrent validity (Pearson or Spearman correlation), and group comparisons (paired t-test or ANOVA). The main expected outcomes include: the adaptation of the instrument, the availability of a tool applicable at different levels of healthcare, the publication of scientific articles, the development of a technical manual, and the support for developing tools to aid clinical practice. The project will contribute to improving care for older PLWHA in the healthcare network, support evidence-based public policies, and strengthen the integration of science, technology, and health innovation. Thus, the proposal addresses the growing need for qualified responses to aging with HIV, promoting equity, comprehensive care, and the strengthening of public health actions in Brazil. (AU)
