Discovery of Aging-Associated Mechanisms Causing Expansion and Progression of Clonal Hematopoiesis of Indeterminant Potential (CHIP)
Description: RELEVANCE TO PUBLIC HEALTH Aging is a complex process that contributes to reduced function and increased disease risk in tissues throughout the body, including the blood system in which up to 15% of individuals aged 70 years or older are at risk for the development of hematologic disorders. As no methods currently exist to identify such at-risk individuals, there is a vital need to understand the mechanisms by which aging promotes hematologic disorders and their precursor conditions. This research is relevant to public health because it will provide important information that will impact the development of new methods and therapeutics to detect and mitigate risk of hematologic disorders during aging.
