Modeling the development, structure and regulation of T cell memory
Description: Project Narrative Diverse populations of memory T cells circulate throughout the body and protect us from re-infection by previously encountered pathogens, but our understanding of how these populations develop, compete, and are maintained is incomplete. A quantitative grasp of this complex ecosystem will reveal what determines the duration of T cell memory, and how to manipulate it; for example, to extend the protection given by vaccines, or to boost and sustain the activity of tumor-specific T cells. In this project we will integrate mathematical modeling and new experimental tools to quantify multiple aspects of circulating T cell dynamics in depth.
