Developing Long Noncoding RNA Therapy for Precision Cardiac Repair
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. About 875,000 Americans die from heart disease each year, of which 50-60% deaths are caused by coronary artery disease which can further develop into heart failure and scarring. We discovered a specific non-coding RNA (lnc RNA TARID) in the exosomes that play an essential role in cardiac repair. In this grant proposal we will use lipid nanoparticles to deliver this non-coding RNA to the injured heart and study safety, efficacy, and mechanism in both small and large animal models.
