Sociocultural factors, DNA methylation and Risk of Diabetes in Hispanics/Latinos

Description: Project Narrative Hispanics/Latinos suffer from higher risk of diabetes than non-Hispanic whites, but little is known about the mechanism behind this disparity. Leveraging the rich clinical data collected by the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos (HCHS/SOL), this project seeks to examine how sociocultural, psychosocial, and lifestyle risk and resilience factors affect aging and risk of diabetes. Such results will greatly enhance our understanding of the mechanisms through which socioenvironmental factors contribute to aging and diabetes, and hold promise for precision prevention and intervention tailored to Hispanics/Latinos.
