Impact of Time-Restricted Feeding in Reducing Cancer Risk Through Optimizing Mitochondria Function
Description: Project Narrative Growing pre-clinical and clinical evidence indicate that fasting for several hours each day can reduce cancer risk, but the mechanisms by which fasting decreases cancer risk are not understood. We propose to use both animal models and human samples to test how daily fasting optimizes mitochondrial function to reduce cancer risk. Since nearly 40% of all men and women will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives, and daily fasting is an easy lifestyle intervention that can be readily adopted by most individuals, the proposed research project is highly relevant to NCI’s mission to reduce the incidence of cancer.
