Mechanisms of Oxytocins Analgesia in Older Adults
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Osteoarthritis (OA) represents the leading cause of disability worldwide in individuals aged 65 and older with very limited effective treatment options and the neuropeptide oxytocin (OT) may be a promising treatment for this population. The proposed research aims to determine OT's pain-relieving effects in older individuals with chronic knee OA pain thereby determining the individual characteristics that account for response to treatment. Results stemming from this work have the potential to help pave the way for future investigations using a treatment optimization strategy for older individuals with chronic pain.
