ARIC Neurocognitive Study (ARIC-NCS) Renewal 2023-2028

Description: Narrative The ARIC neurocognitive cohort will now answer the compelling need to better understand risk of Alzheimer's dementia and Alzheimer's related dementias (AD/ADRD) among the oldest-old (85+ years) where current risk factors are not predictive. ARIC takes a comprehensive approach by studying a large diverse group of people from middle age to the oldest age with over three decades of rigorous data collection on every aspect of their lives. This renewal builds on very high productivity (245 papers since 2009) to continue rigorous data collection (proposed visits 11-13 accumulating 4732 dementia cases, half over age 85 by 2028) with a focus on blood biomarkers and outcomes across every aspect of aging.
