Cortisol, Socioeconomic Status, and Genetic Influences on Cognitive Development
Description: PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE: How do disadvantaged social contexts "get under the skin" to influence cognitive development in childhood? Using a diverse sample of twins in grades 3-5, this project will examine cortisol reactivity, cortisol diurnal rhythm, and chronic cortisol accumulation as biological substrates of socioeconomic disparities in cognitive development. Results will inform interventions and policies designed to ameliorate inequalities in cognition and academic achievement and maximize children's potentials for healthy development and learning.
