Quantifying Lower Extremity Joint Motion in Community-Dwelling Older Adults to Elucidate its Contributions to Mobility Limitations, Incident Mobility Disability, and Falls
Description: NARRATIVE/PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE Effective prevention and treatment of mobility disability, an understudied aging phenotype, hinges on its early identification. To circumvent the challenges associated with testing in specialized labs, a battery of three portable, cutting-edge devices will instead be used to assess mobility limitations in large numbers of older adults in the community setting. These novel data have the potential to identify adults at risk before the onset of disability, thereby facilitating early, targeted interventions.
