Area-level Socio-economic Conditions and Individual-level Health and Mortality: Exploring Place-Based Mechanisms and Individual-level Psychosocial Processes
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Life expectancy in the US has not kept pace with other countries recently due to the rise in mortality related to drug overdose, suicide, and alcohol as well as stalled progress in preventing cardiometabolic mortality. This study uses two longitudinal samples with twenty years of follow-up merged with rich place-based data to understand how structural, social, built, and environmental features prospectively affect individual-level substance misuse, mental health, cardiometabolic health, and mortality. This comprehensive research effort will produce novel evidence to support the development of effective place-based interventions.
