Cardiac MR imaging of hemorrhagic reperfusion injury after myocardial infarction
Description: PROJECT NARRATIVE Myocardial infarction is a significant healthcare problem in the US. Reperfusion therapy has reduced the incidence of death from heart attacks however the incidence of heart failure has remained steady partly due to increased survivability of patients. For some patients with severe infarcts, myocardial hemorrhage has been associated with increased morbidity and mortality. This proposal seeks to develop and validate noninvasive imaging methods to detect myocardial hemorrhage, guiding therapies and risk stratification for this high risk population.
