Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons exposure and dietary risk of Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma in Uganda
Description: Project Narrative Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is highly prevalent in East Africa and results in significant morbidity and mortality. Given the limitations of standard ESCC therapies, alternative approaches to targeting multifactorial risk modification are critically needed to prevent and improve quality of life by limiting disease progression, especially among high-risk populations. If the proposed aims are achieved, targeted cheap interventions to limit environmental and dietary exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons may provide a viable model for prevention of ESCC in sub-Saharan Africa and other settings.
