Senescence-related Proteins and Growth and Differentiation Factors as Modifiers of Aging
Description: PUBLIC HEALTH RELEVANCE: Several proteins have been identified that appear to affect the rate of aging and onset of aging-related conditions, at least in mice. These proteins may be potential drug targets to prevent, delay or treat chronic diseases in humans. To determine whether several of these proteins are associated with the health status of older adults, and if a structured physical activity program positively affects them, we will measure their abundance in blood samples from participants in the Lifestyle Interventions and Independence for Elders (LIFE) Study, in whom multiple aging-related health measures were carefully collected over the course of two years.
