T Cell Immunity in Giant Cell Arteritis
Description: Project Narrative Arteries have natural protection against autoimmune disease, but in the case of giant cell arteritis (GCA) this protection is lost, the patients develop arterial inflammation, and are threatened by blindness, stroke and aortic aneurysm. This project examines defects in the immune system of GCA patients, so-called immune checkpoints, which cause the expansion of disease-inducing immune cells and seeks to define common targets in anti-cancer immunity and in vascular inflammation.
