Adipsin in NASH

Description: Project Narrative Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the most common chronic liver disease, with prevalence growing in parallel with the obesity epidemic. NAFLD has no approved pharmacotherapy, due to incomplete understanding of its molecular mediators which is compounded by its unpredictable progression to liver fibrosis, the major determinant of morbidity/mortality of this disease. In this application, we study the potential role of hepatocyte-derived Adipsin, previously considered an adipose-specific secreted factor, to induce liver fibrosis.
