Studying methionine flux and its role in aging and neurodegeneration
Description: The goal of this study is to examine the role of evolutionary conserved methionine metabolism and downstream methyltransferases in the regulation of aging and in the development of Alzheimer’s disease. Using the powerful genetics and metabolomics methods available in the model organism Drosophila, we will study how methionine metabolism is reprogrammed during aging and neurodegeneration; and whether its tissue-specific alteration can extend lifespan and delay neurodegeneration with the goal of understanding how it can be translated to develop new therapeutics for humans
