Metabolic reprogramming and FGF21 signaling in kidney health and polycystic kidney diseases
Description: Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is the most common genetic kidney disease and the fourth most common cause of end stage renal failure. Tolvaptan, the only FDA-approved drug that is proven to delay the progression of ADPKD, is expensive and is associated with some side effects that may limit its use in some patients. Our overall goal is to understand the metabolic derangement and the underlying molecular mechanism in ADPKD, in order to develop novel therapeutics targeting metabolic pathways to ameliorate ADPKD.
