Functional Decline in Low Functioning Older Adults; Role of iron dysregulation
Description: NARRATIVE This study will be the first observational, longitudinal study to measure and compare over time biochemical measures in the circulation and skeletal muscle related to iron deregulation and mitochondrial dysfunction in both low-functioning and high-functioning older adults. The results from this study will help to identify cellular targets for future studies to improve iron homeostasis and mitochondrial function, which should ultimately slow the rate of progression of functional decline in older adults.
