Molecular regulation of immunoproteasome assembly in inflammatory diseases
Description: An excessive inflammatory response is associated with uncontrolled local and systemic inflammation during severe gram-negative bacterial infections, resulting in cell death and tissue damage. These studies will be the first to elucidate a pro-inflammatory role of inducible immunoproteasome structural assembly in gram-negative bacterial infection-induced acute inflammatory response. These studies will be critical in development of novel therapeutics by inhibition of USP14 or the immunoproteasome to diminish pro-inflammatory responses in acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and other lethal systemic inflammatory diseases.
