Interactions between androgen action and diet-induced metabolic disorders
Description: The effects of dietary composition on metabolic disorders induced by androgen action deficiencies were studied using rodent models.(1) Male androgen receptor knockout mice exhibited obesity, glucose intolerance, and a reduced lifespan when fed a high-fat diet. The observed metabolic disorders were attributed to gut microbiota.(2) Inhibition of fetal androgen action suppressed pancreatic β-cell development in male rats. The rats exhibited insulin defects and glucose intolerance when fed high-fat diets.
