Improving healthy ageing by manipulating snoRNA expression
Description: Aberrant expression of small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) is increasingly linked to multiple age-related diseases. It is, however, unknown if this aberrant expression is actually causing ageing and disease. It is also unknown if manipulating snoRNA expression can help to improve healthy ageing. This project will systematically knock down and overexpress snoRNAs in the model organism Caenorhabditis elegans, and assess if this can make the worms age healthier and live longer. Importantly, these findings have large translational value because snoRNAs are highly conserved from worms to humans.
