Abstract: The report offers an overview and a preliminary estimate of developments in the field of electronic publishing. It presents initiatives and enterprises, which can be classified in four fields of action: 'new business model,' 'self-organization of the sciences,' 'new forms of cooperation,' and 'cost reduction through competition.' Additionally, new forms of peer review in the process of scientific communication are described.
