An Approach to Automate and Individualize Interactive Decision Support for Patients
Year: 2002
Type: article
Abstract: Deciding between several treatment options with complex tradeoffs involving quality and length of life can be difficult for patients. Patient decision support aids that explore the role of the patient's individual preferences and subjective probabilities can be helpful in guiding patients through this process. Our work is aimed at making such aids practical and available to patients through a hybrid approach of developing an aid that is individualized through the interactive customization of a generic decision model. We describe work that we have done to make the customization process efficient and tailored to individual patients.
