Abstract: When I started graduate school years ago, I was uncertain how long or difficult the journey would be.Now I know.Going through many ups and downs, what counts at the end is the final outcome. If it was not for the support I received from people surrounding me, I would have certainly not be where I am now.First and for most, it is God's blessings that kept me going on when everything else seemed to come to a standstill.I am also grateful to many people who supported me and helped me to advance in my studies.I am in debt to my advisor Jennifer Cole who taught me many things and provided productive and positive feedback throughout the years. In addition to being a great scholar, Jennifer taught many 101 survival skills needed in the academic arena: the most important one is to be in charge of my work and assume the driver's seat at all times. Also, I would like to thank José Ignacio Hualde for serving as a co-advisor during the time Jennifer was on sabbatical leave. With no doubt, Silvina Montrul provided great insights and helped me better flesh out my thesis with her priceless comments and expertise in the heritage language field.I would like to extend my gratitude to Elabbas Benmamoun, a wonderful scholar and mentor, for everything he did to support me when I first joined the Linguistics Department till the end of the road.I am lucky to have him as a member in my committee. Most importantly, I am in debt to my father and mother who supported and encouraged me and stood by my side.My beloved husband, Karim, is the closest to me.I thank him for being a good listener and for having good faith in me.I will never forget staying up all night by my side as I was working on my prelim exam.As tired as he was, he went to bed in the morning after I submitted it.My wonderful children
