Abstract: The Golden Retriever is a very popular big braccoid dog. First used for hunting, man entrusted to this dog others functions, mainly in hospitals. The breed is studied through its standard description and its hereditary predispositions. The dominant pathologies are numerous, more frequent are hip and elbow dysplasia, some ocular defects, atopic dermatitis, idiopathic epilepsy, in lower proportions aortic stenosis, or portosystemic shunt. However hereditary transmission is not always proved. The efforts of selection have to focus on locomotor and ophthalmic systems.
