Year: 1992
Type: article
Abstract: This article analyzes the role of Malinalxóchitl, a witch and sister of the god Huitzilopochtli, in the Aztec pilgrimages. It explains how her figure represents a force opposed to the warrior mission of the Mexicas, focusing on the struggle between matrilineal and patrilineal powers, as well as the exclusion of women from the Mexica cult. Additionally, it discusses the symbolic connections of Malinalxóchitl with goddesses of earth, death, and darkness, and the social and religious repercussions of these conflicts in the formation of the Aztec Empire
