Abstract: This chapter draws on a research project investigating the Areas of Study and Teaching Strategies involved in instrumental and vocal lessons at Higher Education level. The project was based largely in the video filming of a range of instrumental tutorials, which took place in the Music Department of Canterbury Christ Church University College. Here, those lessons are considered in the context of the Performance Studies course as a whole, and the student’s contribution to the learning process is examined and discussed.
