Abstract: Patients with gastrointestinal stromal tumors have been found to have other cancers more frequently than expected by chance in a population study. The findings are supportive of a genetic predisposition being more frequent in gastrointestinal stromal tumors, although other reasons cannot be excluded; clinicians need to bear in mind the possible association of a gastrointestinal stromal tumor with another primary cancer.
