Abstract: Four peptides, H-Trp-Gly-Ala-Glu-Gly-Gln-Arg-OH, H-Ser-Trp-Gly-Ala-Glu-Gly-Gln-Arg-OH, H-Phe-Ser-Trp-Gly-Ala-Glu-Gly-Gln-Arg-OH and H-Arg-Phe-Ser-Trp-Gly-Ala-Glu-Gly-Gln-Arg-OH were synthesized by the classical method and tested for the induction of experimental allergic encephalomyelitis in guinea pigs. Consequently, it was found that the length limit of the peptide chain for the induction of the disease was the nonapeptide, H-Phe-Ser-Trp-Gly-Ala-Glu-Gly-Gln-Arg-OH.
