Deformation of Λ hypernuclei

Year: 2008
Type: article
Abstract: We study the deformation property of \ensuremath{\Lambda} hypernuclei using the relativistic mean-field (RMF) method. We find that ${}_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{29}\mathrm{Si}$ and ${}_{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}^{13}\mathrm{C}$ hypernuclei have a spherical shape as a consequence of the additional \ensuremath{\Lambda} particle, whereas the corresponding core nuclei, $^{28}\mathrm{Si}$ and $^{12}\mathrm{C}$, are oblately deformed. Most other hypernuclei have a similar deformation parameter to the core nucleus, in accordance with the previous study with the nonrelativistic Skyrme-Hartree-Fock method. We discuss the sensitivity of our results to the choice of pairing interaction and to the parameter set of the RMF Lagrangian.
