Abstract: Increasing competition and economic restructuring have led to great socioeconomic – territorial inequalities, acute in metropolitan areas, where large and small companies require a local environment to meet these challenges successfully. The most of urban areas are reluctant to abandon their traditional activities in defense of their identity incorporating innovations in production systems. So, this paper presents results of an exploratory study on the conditions for innovation of production systems in two periferic locations in Toluca´s metropolitan area.
