Abstract: Excess body fat is a problem that increases every year andthe combination of nutrition and resistance training (RT) has been shown to be a promising intervention in improving body composition. However, the impact of different dietary macronutrient distributions during the TR is not well understood. Thus, this study examined the influence of dietary macronutrients manipulation in improving body composition in RT`s beginners. Method: Ten healthy and physically active male, between 18 and 24 years and who were not consuming any kind of dietary supplements, engaged in a three days/week RT for six weeks. Participants were divided into two groups: normal protein diet (0.8-1.0 g / kg) and high protein diet (1.6 to 1.8 g / kg). Three days dietary record was applied at the beginning (p0), after 3 weeks (p3) and the end of the study (p6) for checking diet adherence. Anthropometric measurements and 1-RM test were performed at baseline (p0) and at the end of the study (p6). Results: There was negative correlation between increased energy intake and loss of body fat (r = 0.926). However, there was no relation of the different distributions of macronutrients on body composition. Conclusion: Other factors independent of the diet appear to influence muscle hypertrophy and body composition in individuals engaged in TR and higher caloric intake does not lead to a greater lean mass gains.
