Television news technology: Do more sources mean less diversity?
Year: 1993
Type: article
Abstract: The promise of increased differentiation in local television news produced by new technologies in a multichannel environment prompted this study. After comparing 1,335 stories from nine TV stations in Texas, the data showed that 56% of the reports on local newscasts were similar (consonant) and 44% were different (unique). News stories from network sources presented the highest percentage of similarity, while unique stories were usually supplied by local sources.
