Year: 2003
Type: preprint
Abstract: This paper investigates arrangements capable of enhancing, capturing and utilizing knowledge within the …rm. Using French data set, we examine the knowledge creation, sharing and transferring process in an innovation perspective. We aim at studying the complementarities between knowledge management and human resource management practices (henceforth, and HRM), and their impact on innovation. Based on a detailed descriptive analysis and cluster analysis we identify three clusters or bundles of organizational practices as KM and HRM practices sys- tems. These three clusters are characterized respectively by (i) few practices and rules dedicated to innovation ; (ii) half of the practices; and …nally the polar case (iii) in which all the dierent and HRM practices are equally and used together. Empirical evidence con…rms that complementar- ities between and HRM practices exist such as these components policy reinforce each others. We pay special attention to the impact of these bundles on innovation performance. We estimate various econometric speci…cations that permit to conclude that and HRM practices bundles have signi…cant and positive impact on innovation performance. This paper permits to map out a more comprehensive structure and strategy of the …rms in the knowledge-based economy.
