Abstract: This paper reviews some of the existing concepts about learning disabilities, with special emphasis on the disparity of criteria among specialists who treat children with these disabilities. The importance of the knowledge of the central nervous system is highlighted along with the occurrence of new neuropsychological pathologies associated to the latest medical advances. Finally, neuropsychological characteristics of dyslexic and low weight newborns are shown.
