Web-based, Micro-terminology Development: The MMHCC Experience.
Year: 2001
Type: article
Abstract: The MMHCC (Mouse Models of Human Cancers Consortium) is an NCI (National Cancer Institute) initiative aimed at the development, validation, and use of transgenic mouse models to help explore the detection and treatment of human cancers. Organ-based teams are responsible for creating and defining “micro-terminologies” that name pathologic diagnoses, e.g., “Murine Myeloid Leukemia.” Editing and translation software tools and a Web-based repository support this naming process. The tools allow a “curator” to create and deploy on the Web a micro-terminology and supporting resources, e.g., narrative definitions, images, and citations, and then collect browser mediated reviewer comments and suggestions.
